Last week I had a table of 4 (two straight couples) come in for dinner. As I was going around the table taking their drink orders, the first gentleman (seat 2) asked for a Dr. Pepper. “Is Mr. Pibb okay?” I asked him. He said that’s fine, & I went & got their drinks for them. When I drop off drinks or food I always call out what I’m dropping off. It’s just a habit, not exactly sure why I do this. When I dropped off the guy’s Mr. Pibb I accidentally said “Dr. Pepper” instead. Even though I caught my mistake right away I didn’t even care to correct myself since it was no big deal. Then the other gentleman (seat 4) said (as I walked away) “oh now we’re calling it Dr. Pepper?” Now, I’ve had worse customers than this guy before & I’ve had customers say way more disrespectful remarks to me but something about this particular comment really got under my skin. It probably had something to do with the dumbfounded look on his face every time I asked their table a question (Can I get you something to drink? Would you like warm bread & butter to start off with?) or maybe it was the fact that of all the things I could have messed up on as a waitress… I said the wrong name of a drink?
