I work at a retail store that offers a free drop off service for children in a designated play area. The rules are simple: The child has to be within the height limits and completely potty trained (ie no diapers or pull ups). I absolutely HATE the people that come to the counter and get angry that my coworkers and I refuse to risk our jobs and break the rules for them. Customers: “He/She only has the diaper/pull up on in case of an accident.” “He/She is too tall but they’re only gonna sit and watch the movie.” “He/She is too short? But they’re just short for their age.” “They can’t come in? But they’ve come in before.” “But he/she is all excited to go and now they’re going to be upset.” Response: NO, they can’t come in. This is not negotiable! The people try and get all upset and yell or demand to speak to my manager. I refuse to risk my job just because you don’t want to be bothered taking your spawn around the store with you. I don’t care if the kid really had his/her hopes up to get in. I don’t care that they’re going to cry since they can’t go play. What do these people do when they go into stores that don’t offer child care? I’m so sorry to have to disappoint your kid but if I lose my job, please believe I will take the information of the offending party and show up at their door to be taken care of. These rude customers act like they are entitled and that we are obligated to take their children. I did not conceive and birth this child. YOU did that! If you can’t handle them or don’t want to be bothered, then YOU should have had the sense to NOT have the kid.
