I work at a restaurant that has been called a hidden gem, great food and great service…until recently according to the rude and stingy customers that have been coming in as of late. I could go on and on (believe me I have plenty of stories) but I don’t want to bore you so allow me to tell you one story, one story that I will never forget. It begins how every story written on here begins, with the customer. Two women came in, very friendly and patient, and said they were waiting on a few more people so I sat them accordingly. When their friends arrived I realized it was a girls day out and it was a celebration of sorts as they were speaking very excitedly in Spanish. Everything went how it normally does, they get their food, eat , and I offer dessert which is rejected and the bill arrives. They paid and at this time it’s half an hour after we closed and my boss and the rest of the staff are waiting to leave to go home to rest before second shift. My boss told me to go inform them that we had closed. So I went and told them very politely “Unfortunately we did close at 2:00 and it is now 2:30” and all but one apologized. As they left we thanked them and wished them a good day until one woman came up to me with a hostile tone. She said to me “It’s very rude to kick someone out” and I said “I wasn’t kicking you out Ma’am I was just informing you of the time” which she responded to with “So you were kicking us out? I own restaurants and I would never kick someone out, watch who you’re serving.” Her friends watched in horror as the exchange occurred and left with apologetic looks. I deal with many people that outstay their welcome and don’t understand that they have to leave before I can which leaves me and the rest of the staff very sleep deprived. The customer is not always right and anyone who says that is missing a few too many brain cells because the majority of the time customers can’t even remember their order.
