At my store today a customer comes into purchase some kitchenware. She points to a item and said I’d like this one but in the red color. I politely let her know that unfortunately we don’t have that color in stock any longer but I am more then happy to track one down from another location. I also let her know that there is a flat shipping charge to order of $5 and then she went ape shit. She just had to let me and anyone else who would listen know how absurd and unfair this was and that she was entitled to free shipping. “Every other store is giving me free shipping why should I have to pay for shipping!!!” (If you can’t afford 5 dollars for shipping then why are you buying a $100 teapot?! Why are you so entitled to free shipping? What makes you so special?) I try to let her know that the other stores that are offering free shipping are much larger and we are a small company with only 5 locations. “I don’t care I am not paying for shipping. I drove ALL the way out here just to get this teapot!!!” Well I try to diffuse the situation by still calling another location to see if they have it available. They let me know they do and ask them if they would be willing to wave the shipping charge for this customer. The other store agrees and then I let her know that they have the item and will be sending it free of charge for her. Her tune then changes and then she is super apologetic and thankful….”I’m so sorry I just really need to get this teapot… Thank you so much again for doing this for me, I really appreciate it….” (BITCH PLEASE… insert eye roll here) Lastly after she gave me all her information of where to send the item to I find that the “ALL THE WAY DOWN HERE” was only 5 miles from our store.
